The tools, platforms and formats may differ, but what they all have in common is that the Casting director and the actor don't need not be in the same place. An e-casting can thus bring great benefits such as time and cost savings if the parties are far apart, or as in these times, when most of the population is advised to avoid traveling and larger gatherings. <h2>How do I get started?</h2> <ol> <li>You will need a smartphone, tablet or computer with camera and microphone such as a laptop.</li> <li>Download and install one of the following apps or programs on your smartphone or laptop:</li> <ul> <li><a href="https://www.whatsapp.com/?lang=sv" target="_blank" title="Ladda ner WhatsApp" rel="noopener">WhatsApp</a></li> <li><a href="https://www.skype.com/sv/" target="_blank" title="Ladda ner Skype" rel="noopener">Skype</a></li> <li><a href="https://support.apple.com/sv-se/HT204380" target="_blank" title="Läs hur du ringer med Facetime" rel="noopener">Facetime</a> (built-in on Mac and iPhone/iPad)</li> </ul> <li>The Casting director decides which program/app to use for the casting.</li> <li>With both Facetime and WhatsApp, the Casting director will call on the mobile number listed on the actor's CV. If Skype is being used, the Casting director will ask for your Skype ID to be able to add and call you. </li> </ol> <h2>How do I (the Casting director) record the screen?</h2> When the call is in progress and the actor has activated his/her camera, the Casting director needs to record the screen. The video from that recording will be used for the casting. <ol> <li>To record on Mac, press the Shift + Cmd + 5 buttons simultaneously. Under "Options", select where to save the video. Click the icon "record full screen" to start recording.</li> <li>To record on Windows 10, press the Win + G buttons simultaneously to open Game Bar. Activate the microphone and then start recording by clicking the camera.</li> <li>To record on iPhone, make a diagonal slide down from the upper right corner and press the record icon.</li> <li>To record on an Android device, download the app <a href="https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.recorder&hl=en_US" target="_blank" title="Download the app Google Recorder" rel="noopener">Google Recorder</a> and follow the instructions.</li> </ol> <h2>How does e-casting work?</h2> During the recording, the actor will receive instructions from the Casting director and both of you can talk to each other just like in a regular telephone conversation. Often the Casting director has sent an excerpt from a script in advance. The Casting director may ask the actor for retakes etc. just like on a regular casting. <h2>What can I prepare as an actor?</h2> <ol> <li>Make sure you have good lighting in the room. Record yourself with the camera in advance as a test and make sure you have no weird shadows on your face or similar, and that the sound and picture are okay.</li> <li>If you have a stand for your mobile or tablet, use it.</li> </ol> <h2>What can I prepare as a Casting director?</h2> Make a couple of test calls with someone you know first. Try to record, check that the camera and sound is okay. If you need to change something, e.g. change unit, please do it well in advance for the casting. The sweat is running on an already soaked back. I can almost hear my own heart beating. It is certainly the same feeling as the murderer of Edgar Allan Poe's short story "The Tell-Tale Heart." It's a job interview. Another audition. – 3, 7, 10, 11, 12, 15 ... I know I did a great job on the first dance test. We got plenty of time to go through the whole dance combination with the choreographer assistant and all the movements and steps were very clear. The room was equipped with mirrors so that we could pick up all the small details of the choreography. – 18, 19, 25, 27, 42 ... Wow, what a long jump between the numbers. We were certainly many participants here today. Unusually many, I think. Most people I know from earlier auditions, but there's always new talent showing up. This time I recognized last-year students from the school where I studied. Have they already started to look for a job? <blockquote style="margin-left: 30px; width: 300px; float: right;">"Thank you for your great efforts today. We have chosen to keep the following numbers..."</blockquote> – 44, 45, 50, 57, 58 ... The audition was well-organized and the jury was friendly. On the dance audition we had first danced in three major groups and then we were called six people at a time. Three positioned in a front row and three in a back row. The first time I was in the back and the second time I ended up in the middle front. The focus was there. I nailed the movements, as well as that feeling that the artistic team constantly talked about during the introduction of the day. I had great eye contact with the director as well as the choreographer, producer and music director, who all sat there with our CV's in hand and with a judging eye. – 60, 63 ... YES! I made it! It is always hard not to jump up and down of joy when you get such news, but since there are more people who get a no, we still want to show these people respect. The numbers are repeated and I can confirm that I had heard right, I feel a tremendous relief. I'm suddenly very tired and extremely hungry. After a full day of registration, bib numbers, waiting, setting the choreography, still more waiting, "showtime" and the final wait before the result, both body and mind feel quite exhausted. So now I just head for home and eagerly await the final "did I pass the audition?" answer. Getting a notice the same day or even the same week is quite rare. It can take a week up to two months. Of course, if you get a positive result it's worth the waiting, and then I know that it will take at least another six months or a year before I hear those words again: – Thank you for your great efforts today. We have chosen to keep the following numbers ... I might have been 17-18 years old, and was waiting i the wings to get up on stage. One of my teachers stopped near me. She looked at me and smiled and said: "Sanna, you know, no one here can do what you're about to, nor do it better than you. No one. It doesn't matter if you're nervous, in this moment, no one can do it better." Then she went away and I stood there. I wasn't particularly nervous. But her words had a soothing, warming effect on me and they lingered on. I already knew I could do what I was about to do, but now I knew it even a little more. I don't know why, but some words, advice or phrases we hear stick forever. I have often blamed my mind to be selective since I more easily remember trivialities or small matters better than great. But these words, I am so glad stayed with me. In some contexts they've served as consolation, hope and a kind of confidence that I haven't been entirely wrong over the years. Now looking back it's almost 21 years ago I started my career as an artist. One of the things I have become acquainted with during this time are auditions. Endless waiting and feeling terrified, the too important and yet necessary ones, have all returned, to delight mingled with terror. In these contexts those words don't work because I'm just one of many who have prepared and not the only one there to do what I do best. As for auditions, you can hardly measure it who is able to do "best", since they're looking for something specific, which usually is quite unclear. However, despite the rather vulnerable situation that an audition actually is, I try thinking where that teacher's words can actually benefit me. No one else is me. I'm the only one who comes in with my expression, my voice, my energy, my life experience. I am what I am despite and because. <blockquote>"Sanna, you know, no one here can do what you're about to, nor do it better than you. No one. It doesn't matter if you're nervous, in this moment, no one can do it better."</blockquote> This certainty has over the years become an asset that reduced the influence of nerves. When I'm auditioning, I'm never nervous about not singing good enough. I'm more nervous about not being authentic and sincere enough, that for some reason, some kind of filter will appear between me, what I want to come through, and the people sitting on the other side of the table. I want my "I" to go through. When applying for a job, many of us ask ourselves "what they want" instead of thinking "here I am, what can I put trough, what can I give." Second, we tend to look around the room, look at others and then we're getting aware of the competition, thoughts of "so many of these are so good". That is true, but the competition is never something we can have any power over. Regardless of the competition, I still need to show my "I". If I'm successful in my profession, it doesn't mean others can't be successful too. Often, it's talent and skills associated with who you are, how you behave and what approach you show, along with timing with a capital T, that gets you a job. Of all the things others can do, being you isn't one of them. No one here and in the present can do it better than you. And the wise words are there again. <div style="background-color: #006699; padding: 20px; color: #fff;"> <h2>Sanna Martin</h2> Sanna Martin has been a part of Swedish entertainment since 1995. She has played both small and larger roles in shows and musicals, she's run her own business for ten years and released an album with Peter LeMarc interpretations. To enable even more wonderful projects, we invited industry people to our very first international get-together on Monday 9 February during the Berlinale Film Festival. It was a lovely mix of directors, producers and media representatives from Germany, Sweden, Finland, Austria, Switzerland and the UK who mingled in the Home Base lounge at Potsdamer Platz. Amid jazz music, refreshments and Swedish "specialties" you could meet acquaintances but also make new contacts. Our little "speed networking" was received with great enthusiasm and interest and we are very happy that we were able to bring together all you wonderful directors and producers. Hopefully, some new ideas, projects and collaborations were born during the event. Fri, 11 Apr 2014 12:16:00 +0200 2014-04-11T13:40:06+02:00 <h2>Job categories</h2> Job categories is a new way to divide the business in relevant niched industries. You may want to view all job ads concerning TV jobs, then simply click on <a href="http://en.stagepool.com/jobcategory/television" target="_blank">job category TV</a> and all TV jobs will be listed, regardless of the requested profession (could be TV hosts, camera men, project leaders, studio technicians etc.). Job categories may be quite interesting for members with a very wide range of knowledge and professional skills within the same industry. At the top, right below the search field on the <a href="http://en.stagepool.com/jobs" target="_blank">All jobs page</a> you will find up to 22 job categories such as commercial, film, TV, dance, musical theatre etc. Only job categories in which we currently have job ads will be visible which means we won't show all 22 job categories at the same time. When clicking on a job category, e.g. <a href="http://en.stagepool.com/jobcategory/cruises_resorts" target="_blank">Cruises & Resorts</a>, the job list below will display all current job ads within the job category cruises and resorts. In this particular case the purpose is to make it easier for dancers to filter the job list on relevant jobs. We are aware that e.g. a street dancer not necessarily has skills within other techniques, but usually our members are very wide in their profession skills and furthermore, our job ads may have very wide criteria. We hope that profession groups will be the best way to avoid missing a job opportunity. Freemium subscription is what it sounds like - completely free of charge, just as before. The only difference is that we will now publish jobs for Freemium as well. However, Freemium-members will only be able to apply for unpaid jobs such as student and amateur productions, documentaries, talent shows, reality shows, TV-audience and similar. This doesn't mean that we encourage employers to offer unpaid jobs, nor do we support abuse of free staff. We will publish unpaid jobs that traditionally don't have any budget. Preferably, these unpaid jobs should have other values for the workers such as work experience, free demo, showreel (from e.g. a movie, studio project etc.) or similar. The paid subscription Jobseeker has been renamed Premium. As a Premium-member you will access all our jobs and apply for all jobs that match your profile. Primarily we show you paid jobs but if you want to you can of course also see the unpaid jobs. <div style="width: 300px; float: left; padding: 20px; text-align: center;"> <h3>So; the concept is simple: if you pay for your StagePool subscription you can apply for paid jobs and if you don't pay for your subscription you can only apply for unpaid jobs.</h3> </div> <h2>The overall layout</h2> The “My jobs” and “All jobs” pages now got a new layout. I changed the width of the columns to make more room for the job ads and to put the job list in focus. I hope that you will find it easier to browse among your job ads now that the layout is a lot cleaner and less messy. <h2>The search field</h2> The search field above the job list is now bigger, more centralized while all advanced search options have been hidden. Use the search field for the most common keywords such as profession, age, city, industry and description. On "All jobs" page you will have to press enter or the "search" button to start your search while "My jobs" page will start to search automatically as you type. <img src="/images/article/img_jobpages_makeover2.gif" alt="New search field" width="729" height="108" /> <h2>Advanced search</h2> Click on “Advanced search” to expanded the advanced search options. We kept the same old search filters as we had before so I hope you will recognize it. If you are a Premium member you will also be able to create your own job categories and sort the jobs in these categories.  <h2>The job list</h2> Your list of matching job ads now shows the job icons aligned completely to the left and each job header is now placed right above the introduction instead of above the icon. We have placed dropdown menus below the most essential sections. <h3>Unique URL for your CV and your Sedcard</h3> Now you can create a public link (URL) to your CV and your Sedcard. Go to your CV, click on edit and fill in a username that you want in your address. Example: <a href="http://en.stagepool.com/cv/yourname/12345">http://en.stagepool.com/cv/yourname/12345</a>. The word marked with green is your username in the URL. You can create a new username for each CV and it must be unique, i.e. the username must not have been taken by sombody else. First come, first served... <h3>Copy an existing CV</h3> Now you don't need to enter all details in your CV all over again if you want to create a new CV. Enter your CV and simply click on "Copy" to create an exact copy of the CV you're currently watching. The new copy opens automatically and you can start editing immediately. <h3>Address your CV's</h3> You can now address your CV's by creating a CV title for each CV, e.g. "The actor CV" or "Short CV". It makes it easier for you to separate your CV's when you want to apply for a job. <h3>Change photo order</h3> Now you can decide in which order you want your photos in your CV to show. You can of course still also select which one of the photos you want to set as your primary CV photo. To sort your photo order, point on your main photo on your CV and click on the sort icon. In the popup window that opens, simply drag and drop the photos in the order you wish. Close the window when you're finished. <h3>Web camera plug-in</h3> Now you can take a photo with your web cam directly in your CV. Point on your main CV photo and click on the camera icon to take a quick photo for your CV. Your browser will probably ask for permission to use your web camera. <h3>Clearer edit buttons in your CV</h3> It's now visually crearer where to click to edit respective section in the CV. Click on the blue edit buttons to go directly to each section of the CV. <h3>Add associations to your CV</h3> Now you can add associations such as unions and organisations to your CV to show that you're professional and authorized. We have entered the biggest European associations in our database. <h3>Free text for skills</h3> Now you can add your own skills if you don't find what you're looking for among the skills in our database. <h3>Awards and honors</h3> If you have received awards and honors you can now show this on your CV. Go to your CV edit pages and click on "Awards & honors" to enter all details. <h3>New minimum requirement: one CV and one photo in the CV</h3> We have now introduced a new requirement when it comes to deleting a CV. In order to delete a CV you must have at least one more CV to make this possible. Furthermore, your "last" CV must now contain at least one photo. If you try to delete the last photo in the only CV you have left, you will be reminded that you must have at least one more CV with at least one uploaded photo. These minimum requirements are introduced since many members delete photos and CV's by mistake or forget to replace any of them with new ones. Another important reason is that formerly made job applications are automatically deleted when the last CV is deleted. However, if you delete a CV and still have at least one CV with at least one photo left, your formerly made job applications you did with your recently deleted CV will attach your existing CV automatically. <h3>Show on your CV that you can send invoices</h3> Make it clearer on your CV that you have a firm and can charge fees and remunerations by invoice. Tick the checkbox under Edit CV > general. <h3>Reminder that personal message or attached files are missing</h3> When you apply for a job with DigiCV without filling in the personal message field and/or if the CV you have chosen doesn't include an attached file (document, audio, video, link etc.), you will be reminded that a personal message as well as a few attached files will improve your chances to get the job. The personal message is written directly in the message field when you apply for the job. Go to your CV and attach files in edit mode before you apply. <h3>Encouraging you to upload a photo</h3> Now when you enter a CV that is missing a photo we immediately prompt you to upload a photo as soon as possible. Just follow the instructions in the popup to start the upload. <h3>New voice settings</h3> We have added new voice levels; high voice, middle voice and deep voice for everybody that doesn't sing but who still works with her/his voice, e.g. actors, speakers, audiobook readers etc. Remember to upload a voice sample as well so that employers can listen to your voice. <h3>CV customized for backstage-workers</h3> Now we have customized the CV for all of you who work behind the stage or behind the camera! Settings for appearance and acting age have been removed since this isn't relevant information for your professions. Furthermore, we added the possibility to enter what kind of equipment you have or can handle, optional of course. To create a "backstage-CV", simply select a backstage profession as main profession and your CV setting options will adjust automatically. <h3>More about you on your CV</h3> We have now locked up the possibility to show wage demands directly on the CV (Note! this must be handled very carefully and does only work with specific professions and situations. We recommend that most people don't set wage demands on their CV since this can affect negotiations in a negative way). The possibility will primarily give freelancers on backstage level and who probably have their own firm, a chance to present their fixed pricesfor their services. You can also set several cities and countries on your CV if you live in or have the possibility to live in more than one place, for professional availability. You will be searchable in these areas. We have also added hobbies and possibility to add references directly in the CV. <h3>Now we introduce Sedcard across Europe</h3> The format Sedcard (also known as Comp cardor Composite card) has formerly been a well-used tool in the model industry but has lately become very popular among actors and performers as well. So we thought, why not introduce this for all professions in the whole industry and set new standards!? A Sedcard is a small portfolio, a composition of photos and the most important personal details along with name, profession and contact information. A Sedcard doesn't contain working experience, education/training or skills as in an ordinary full-scale CV, but is more of a "smart card". For those of you who don't have any use of portrait photos, an alternative can be to upload pictures of your creations, demonstrations etc. All CV's created on StagePool have a "Sedcard view". Click on "View as Sedcard" when you've entered your CV. <h3>Change payment method for the subscriptions</h3> Now you can change payment method if you want to change to or between monthly direct debet or credit card. Go to My account > Subscriptions and click on "change payment method". <a href="/account/manage/subscriptionlist.aspx">https://en.stagepool.com/account/manage/subscriptionlist.aspx</a> <h3>New professions for backstage-workers</h3> We have added more than 100 new professions for backstage-workers, i.e. everybody working behind, below, above stage or behind the camera, in all sections from pre- to post-production. We will successively strengthen our positions and offer jobs for everybody in the whole entertainment industry. And as you might have noticed we have already started. Remember that if you choose any of these backstage professions as main profession in your CV, some functions on the website and in your CV can get different functionality (some settings might not apply to backstage workers). <h3>Backstage-workers won't match on acting age</h3> If you have chosen a backstage profession as main profession in your CV, the backstage jobs that match your CV won't be matched on acting age since this information isn't required for backstage CV's anymore. <h3>Profession "Other" removed</h3> We removed the profession "Other" from our system and all CV's that had this profession as main profession or secondary profession. If you had this profession selected in your CV, we have replaced it manually with the profession/s that best matched your working experience. You who have been effected by this was informed in advance. <h3>Your photo as "thumbnail"</h3> Now it's much clearer to see if you're logged in and who you're logged in as. In the upper right corner you now see your latest selected primary CV photo whenever you're logged in. <h3>Set your native language</h3> Set what language/languages is/are your native language/s. This is very helpful for emnployers who really need to find people who speak a specific language 100% fluently. Enter native language the same way you enter knowledge level below the language list. First mark your language in the left list, then in the droplist "level", set the language as "native". <h3>Describe your education</h3> We have added yet another field to describe each education in detail. Use the field "description" if you want to describe the perticular program, course etc. you took part of. Enter each education you have entered and click on the edit button (scissors icon) to add a description to your existing educations. <h3>Create a photo gallery</h3> A much asked-for function is now available on your CV. You can now add a photo gallery with the content of your choice directly on your CV. Enter the edit section for multimedia ("Videos, music, voice samples and links") where you upload your pictures. Select the type "Image (To gallery)" and upload the images one by one. All images will be found by clicking "Photo gallery" directly in your CV. <h3>Hide/show expired and/or applied jobs</h3> Now you can easily choose to show job ads that have expired on your job page. As you may know, expired jobs disappear automatically but by clicking on "include expired" in the search filter at the top of the job page, you may show them again. You can also choose to the jobs you have applied for by clicking on "Only applied". <h3>Navigate between StagePool countries if you're signed in</h3> Ever seen the flags above our navigation? You can see them if you have signed in to StagePool and they give you the possibility to browse our German and Scandinavian websites as well. These sites can contain the same jobs as we do but mostly they also have other local jobs, so if you're interested in working abroad you should start using these flags to navigate on our national pages. Applications from independent dancers with Dance UK membership and dancers who work for Dance UK company members are now welcome. Deadline for all applications is Friday 7 September 2012. Six independent dancers and 14 company dancers will be awarded mentorships including a paid mentor and a £300 personal bursary. This programme recognises the huge potential for dancers to become leaders. It is designed to build capacity within the dance workforce and to ensure skills and knowledge retention in the sector, addressing problems of succession to key dance roles. The aims are to build dancers’ confidence and highlight their transferable skills, to provide guidance and to demonstrate the opportunities available to performers with perceived leadership potential in both artistic and non-artistic roles. Over eight months they will be provided with a paid mentor who is a high profile leader from the arts world or beyond the sector. Each mentor will be individually matched to the dancers by Dance UK. Mentors who are role models within dance, and can demonstrate a similar shift from performing in their own career history may be the most useful mentors. The aim is to support the dancers to help them consider their future beyond or alongside their current performing careers. Dance UK has designed this programme inspired by the successful dancers’ mentoring programme the organisation ran in England and Scotland in 2007. Of the 16 dancers who took part five years ago, eight have gone on to leadership positions including: Andrew Hurst, who became General Manager of Phoenix Dance and is now Company Manager of the Royal Ballet; Rachel Krische who became Head of Dance for Northern School of Contemporary Dance and is now Head of Dance for Leeds Metropolitan University; Pedro Machado and Stine Nilsen, co-Directors of Candoco Dance Company; James MacGillvray, Acting Artistic Director of Scottish Dance Theatre; Claire Cunningham who was appointed Rehearsal Director of Sidi Larbi’s company and Michaela Polley, Rehearsal Director of Rambert Dance Company. The works deal with urban development and structural changes, with the impact of performance and installation art on public space and vice versa. In the course of the festival tanz nrw 11 one performance installation will be presented in Düsseldorf. Both performance installations will be shown in Viersen. However, most of them are empty handed but full of dreams. To start your career one thing is absolutely necessary: socializing with people and collecting information. A good possibility to collect material for your show reel is to participate in no-budget movies. It is important however that your recordings appear reputable and as professional as possible. It is always good to have a printed copy and CD version of your application material. Your picture is the first thing a caster will notice about your application – that’s why it is even more important that you present yourself on your picture as good as possible. Here a couple of tips on selecting pictures for your CV, which you should pay close attention to: 1. The picture should be high quality. At best you have a picture taken by a professional photographer. No pictures taken by a webcam or passport pictures! Ask for a CD-ROM or scan your pictures so you will have them in a high digital quality. 2. The picture should be a portrait, taken from the front. Avoid exaggerated poses or hair dues, as well as glasses or jewelry which hide too much of your face. If you are a dancer you can also use a nice full body shot. 3. You have to decide for yourself whether to use a color- or black and white picture. A color picture might for example better reflect your hair- and eye color, whereas black and white pictures often leave an artistic impression. 4. Avoid touch-up. The risk exists that your picture doesn’t look like you anymore afterwards and also that it might seem too “artificial”. 5. Don’t be afraid to smile. You will be taken seriously if you smile in your picture. Try different hairstyles and clothes, so that you have a big selection of pictures on your CV. 6. Try to express your personality through the pictures, but don’t exaggerate. It is important that you have a good connection to the photographer and that you can trust him / her. Talk to the photographer first and explain what the pictures are needed for and how they are supposed to show you. 7. Use pictures that have been recently taken.
